How we handle it.
This Audi is a good example. It had no heat at idle, someone had been smelling coolant, and the wrong type of coolant had been added. We found older coolant lines on top of the engine that had turned brittle and started leaking. We replaced the lines, flushed the cooling system, put in the right coolant, and the repair was done the same day.
Coolant type matters. Mixing the wrong one can cause problems of its own. If you’re topping off often, there’s a leak, and it’s cheaper to find it now than after the engine overheats.
