Why shortcuts are dangerous
The fuel pump sits inside the gas tank, submerged in fuel. It needs the right amount of power. In this case, a quick fix ran a wire straight from the battery to the pump. The wire melted, the connector scorched, and the pump overheated.
Hot, melting electrical parts in a fuel tank are a fire risk. The pump was simply worn out inside. Extra power never fixes a worn pump.
