Brake Repair Near East Windsor: A Grinding Ford F250

By the technicians at Precision Auto Repair · October 25, 2026 · 2 min read

Short answer: A grinding noise when you brake usually means the pads are worn and metal is touching the rotor. That’s what we found on this Ford F250 at our South Windsor shop, a short drive on Route 5 for East Windsor drivers, so see our brake repair near East Windsor.

The truck

A Ford F250 came into our South Windsor shop with a grinding noise from the brakes. On the rear brake we found worn pads and a rotted rotor. We took photos before we touched anything, so the owner could see exactly what we saw.

Why grinding is a warning you shouldn’t wait on

Brake pads have friction material on a steel backing. When the material is gone, the backing grinds into the rotor. The truck takes longer to stop, and a pad job can turn into pads, rotors and calipers. In New England, road salt and moisture also rust rotors and brake lines, which is why we check the whole system, not just the pads.
